    Quartz Crystals Are An Important Electronic Material

    Quartz crystals are an important electronic material. Quartz wafers cut in a certain direction, when subjected to mechanical stress, will generate an electric field or charge proportional to stress, a phenomenon known as positive piezoelectric effect. Conversely, when the quartz wafer is subjected to an electric field, it generates a strain proportional to the electric field. This phenomenon is called the inverse piezoelectric effect. The combination of positive and negative effects is called the piezoelectric effect.
